BMW-Andretti's Maximilian Guenther was kicked off the podium of Saturday's E-Prix round at Diriyah after the FIA stewards determined the German had overtaken Audi's Lucas di Grassi under the Safety Car.

The second race of the season-opening Formula E championship at Diriyah in Saudi Arabia, was a chaotic affair in which the BMW Andretti squad prevailed in the first two spots, with Alexander Sims conquering his maiden FE win after a pole to finish drive.

However, Guenther's maneuver over di Grassi, conducted during the Safety Car period, ultimately earned him a 24-second penalty that has relegated him to a lowly P11 in the final results.

Mercedes' Stoffel Vandoorne thus inherits third behind Sims and di Grassi, the former McLaren driver conquering his second podium of the weekend, further boosting the German team's points tally for its official FE debut.
