Pascal Wehrlein has left Mahindra with immediate effect and is reportedly set to join Porsche for Formula E's seventh season.

Wehrlein - who finished runner-up to Mercedes' Stoffel Vandoorne in this weekend in FE's virtual Race at Home Challenge - announced the news of his departure from the Indian team on his Instagram social media account.

"From today onwards I will no longer be part of Mahindra Racing," wrote Wehrlein.

"My interest was to finish the season but the current situation didn’t allow so. I can’t say much about my future but I will keep you informed."

While the 25-year-old is mum on where he goes next, website The Race contends that Wehrlein's next employer will be Porsche, which will allegedly replace works driver Neel Jani with Wehrlein for the manufacturer's 2020/21 season in Formula E.

According to The Race, talks have been ongoing in the past few months between Mahindra, Wherlein and Porsche, with negotiations leading just recently to a formal agreement.

Wehrlein's partnership with Porsche could potentially expand beyond Formula E with an involvement in the World Endurance Championship's future LMDh programme which the German manufacturer is considering from 2022 or 2023.
