Six-time world champion Lewis Hamilton gave a big thumbs up to Stefano Domenicali's appointment as Formula 1's new CEO, believing there is no one better to lead the sport into the future.
Domenicali will replace current chief executive Chase Carey at the helm of Formula One Management from the start of next year, a changing of the guard that will take place following a four-year tenure by Carey during which the American oversaw Grand Prix racing's crucial organizational, regulatory and financial transformation.
"I know Stefano really well, he’s one of the nicest guys," commented Hamilton.
"Actually, I don’t think they could have really chosen someone better, to be honest, to replace some big shoes. He’s [Chase Carey] done an amazing job and has always had such a great approach.
"I think Stefano has got a great heart, he’s got a good family and good morals. The future’s positive."
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, a man once considered as Carey's potential successor, also welcomed Domenicali's nomination.
"I am happy for Stefano. He is a man who knows racing and the business, so a good choice!"
Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto is obviously well acquainted with F1's future chief executive, having worked for many years at Maranello alongside the Italian.
"We are very happy that the role of Chase will be handed over to Stefano on January 1st," Binotto said.
"His talents as a manager and especially his knowledge of the sport, combined with his experience and personal qualities, make him the perfect choice to continue Chase's reforms.
"It will be a pleasure to work with a good friend like him as we grew up together in Ferrari. I look forward to working with him and all the other stakeholders, to make Formula One even stronger and more spectacular."
Future Aston Martin Racing driver Sebastian Vettel was equally enthusiastic about the future, but the four-time world champion also paid tribute to Carey.
"It is naturally nice because it is a familiar face," said Vettel. "But of course we can't forget that it is not an easy job. So thanks to Chase Carey for getting us so far.
"I think it has certainly not always been easy and I think the next few years may be the fruits of Chase's work and will show whether we are heading in the right direction.
"But it is nice to see, that it is someone you know who is taking over."
