Schumacher still learning, but growing 'stronger and stronger'

Mick Schumacher has little to show for his first nine races to date in F1, but the Haas rookie insists he's learning and growing "stronger and stronger" with each outing.

Schumacher's Austrian Grand Prix weekend was another case of battling at the rear and beating his teammate to the checkered flag which he comprehensively did as usual.

But despite the perception from the outside that the German is just making up the numbers on Sunday, Schumacher insists that there are always valuable positives to take away from every outing.

"I think we all grow and learn, obviously, with every race weekend," he said after last weekend's race.

"For me personally I feel I’ve been growing stronger and stronger with the team and being able to spend the time with the team is really good. I’m looking forward to Silverstone."

Haas' lack of resources and its early commitment to its 2022 car leave the team with little chances of improving the pace of its VF-21, although Haas is trying insists Schumacher.

"I mean obviously it was not easy, but still, we got to be in the fight in the beginning of the race," he said.

"Got a pretty good start and yes, I mean, we have to take what we get and that’s a positive. But nonetheless now, we’ll analyse everything, and we’ll find a few tenths here and there to be able to be closer to the [rest]."

Haas team boss Guenther Steiner isn't fixated on the results achieved by his novice drivers, but rather on Schumacher and teammate Nikita Mazepin following their learning curve as reliably as possible.

“We performed well as a team throughout this series of races, and obviously we’ve got a few more triple-headers coming this season," Steiner said in Austria. "We’ll be well prepared, but it is tiring once you’re into them.

"From today’s race we had the result we expected. Both guys put in a solid performance, there’s just not a lot more in it for us at the moment. The learning is continuous, and the drivers are getting better."
