Logan Sargeant concluded the first half of his maiden season in F1 with no points on the board but the Williams rookie insists he's "close" to where he wants to be in terms of his driver development.

Sargeant claimed his best result on race day at last month's British Grand Prix, while he achieved his best performances in qualifying in Baku and at Silverstone where he lined up P14 on the grid of both events.

The young American has endured a challenging start to his career among motorsport's elite, with mistakes and frustrating moments marking his apprenticeship.

After last weekend's final round before F1 heads into its annual summer break, Sargeant glanced back at his first twelve races and to the learnings he's taken so far this year.

"It’s actually very small things, but the small things that make a big difference," he explained.

"There were points in the year where I was simply holding the brake too late into the corners and slowing the minimum speed too much - I’ve gotten on top of that, just inputs in high-speed corners causing instabilities, things like that.

"There are countless things I can continue on. It’s all just very minor driving traits that needed to be adjusted, a load of things just to suit the car better that didn’t really affect the balance of a car in Formula 2 but with how sensitive these cars are these small differences make quite a significant difference."

Looking ahead, Sargeant says the back-half of his F1 season will be about delivering clean, consistent and better executed races for himself and for Williams.

"I have high expectations, I want to drive well, I’ve been frustrated with myself plenty of times this year where I haven’t done what I could have done," he admitted.

"At times I feel like I’ve just missed the mark on that.

"It’s about cleaning that up, stringing it together better, executing better, and I feel like that’s the next step because I now feel like I have the pieces to do it all."
