Oscar Piastri reflected on his victory at the Chinese Grand Prix, admitting that it was well-deserved after a disappointing race back home.
It was a commanding win which never looked in doubt for the Australian driver. Holding the lead into the first corner on the opening lap, Piastri only relinquished the lead for a few laps when he pitted for a fresh set of hard tyres in the first half of the Grand Prix.
The McLaren man had a leg up on teammate Lando Norris throughout the entire weekend, outqualifying the British driver for both the Sprint race and main race and extending his lead to almost ten seconds at the chequered flag.
Norris suffered a critical issue with his brake pedal towards the end of the race, but managed to limp his MCL39 to the line to complete a McLaren 0ne-two, with Mercedes' George Russell rounding out the podium.
After the Grand Prix, Piastri was understandably happy to secure his third win in his Formula 1 career.
An Incredible Weekend
Speaking to F1 media immediately after the Chinese Grand Prix, Piastri hailed his team for producing a car capable of race wins. He said: "It's been an incredible weekend from start to finish.
"The car's been pretty mega the whole time. I think today was a bit of a surprise with how differently the tyres behaved.
"I'm just so proud of the whole weekend. This is what I feel like I deserved from last week. The team did a mega job with the one-two. I'm very happy," added Piastri.
The 23-year-old, like many of the teams and drivers, was surprised by the durability of the hard tyre. He stated: "On the medium it was still a bit tricky but much better than yesterday, and then the hard was a much better tyre than everyone expected, or certainly than we expected.
"To go all the way to the end like that was a bit of a surprise, but a happy surprise," concluded the Australian.
Piastri currently sits fourth in the Drivers' Championship on 34 points. Norris leads the Standings on 44 points.
