Williams development driver Lance Stroll has extended his European Formula 3 championship lead after winning two of three races at the Red Bull Bing, round four of this year’s campaign.
The Canadian kick started his Spielberg weekend with second place in an opening contest that was overshadowed by a horror crash involving Ryan Tveter, Peter Li Zhi Cong, and Pedro Piquet.
All three drivers are thankfully OK, though Li will need surgery after suffering “broken bones in his heel” while also being diagnosed with “four fractured vertebrae”.
Having claimed pole positions for race two and three, Stroll, who drives for multiple title-winning team Prema Powerteam, converted both into a pair of dominant victories at the Austrian Grand Prix venue.
The 17-year-old, who joined Williams from the Ferrari Driver Academy over the winter, leads former Red Bull junior Callum Illot and 2014 McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner George Russell in the standings.
