Reigning F1 world champion Lando Norris and MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi share a mutual admiration that has now fueled a captivating possibility: an ultimate motorsport dream team targeting the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The McLaren driver shared the stage with his childhood idol on Friday at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where the conversation quickly turned from hillclimbs to endurance racing and the possibility of joining forces for the French endurance classic.
The timing was fitting. Earlier in the day, Norris had driven McLaren's new Hypercar, the machine that will spearhead the team's return to the top class of the World Endurance Championship and Le Mans in 2027.
With the Woking-based outfit preparing to chase outright victory in the Sarthe, talk naturally shifted to whether one of its biggest stars could one day climb into the cockpit.
Asked if he would like to partner Rossi in a future Le Mans assault, Norris barely hesitated.
“Hell yeah I would,” he said before an equally enthusiastic Rossi added: “I tried to ask him, but they are very busy now, Formula 1 drivers.”
McLaren's Le Mans return fuels the dream
For now, Norris admitted Formula 1's packed calendar leaves little room for extra racing commitments. But McLaren's ambitious Le Mans programme has clearly planted an idea.
“We have too many races, but with McLaren now entering Le Mans, maybe next year… no, not next year,” he said. “But maybe in a couple of years, I would love to.
“It would be an honour for me and it would be a lot of fun, for sure.”

Rossi's response suggested he is more than willing to keep the seat warm: “I’ll try to wait for Lando.”
The admiration between the two is nothing new. Norris has long spoken about Rossi being one of his sporting heroes, while the Italian has also made no secret of wanting to race alongside the Briton.
A Goodwood Revival shot first?
The pair could even get a chance to share a car before any Le Mans adventure. The prospect of teaming up at this year's Goodwood Revival, where competitors race historic machinery in period dress, was also floated during Friday's appearance.
Norris embraced the spirit of the event.
“I want to dress up, and I want to have a good time,” he said.
Rossi was happy to leave one important detail in his younger counterpart's hands.
“Why not? I’ll let him decide the car,” Rossi concluded.

While a Le Mans partnership remains firmly in the realm of future possibilities, the ingredients are beginning to line up.
Rossi has already sampled the famous 24-hour race twice with BMW in the LMGT3 category, although technical problems denied his No.46 crew the chance of a breakthrough result, including a podium opportunity in 2025.
He has also tested Hypercar machinery and continues to race for BMW in GT World Challenge Europe after leaving the FIA World Endurance Championship.

McLaren, meanwhile, is preparing for its long-awaited return to endurance racing's premier class, and the idea of seeing Norris behind the wheel has been encouraged from within the team.
Chief executive Zak Brown has revealed that both Norris and teammate Oscar Piastri had expressed interest in tackling the iconic race in McLaren colours.
If that vision becomes reality, one of endurance racing's most intriguing line-ups could feature a Formula 1 champion and the motorcycle legend who inspired him in the first place.
