Ferrari has handed Dino Beganovic a new responsibility within its Formula 1 operation, promoting the 22-year-old to a reserve driver role for the 2027 season as the Swede prepares to bring his single-seater career to a crossroads.
A member of the Ferrari Driver Academy for seven years, Beganovic has steadily worked his way through the junior ranks, winning races in every championship he has contested full-time.
But despite that consistent record, a coveted race seat in F1 has remained elusive.
His new position with the Scuderia will keep him close to the sport's highest level, where he will join Antonio Giovinazzi on Ferrari's reserve roster and take on additional development responsibilities.
Beganovic is no stranger to Ferrari's F1 machinery. He has already participated in four first-practice sessions for the team across 2025 and 2026, gaining valuable experience while making his case for a future in the premier class.
Seven years in Ferrari's junior ranks
Beganovic's association with Ferrari began after an impressive karting campaign, during which he won both the Italian and Swedish championships and finished runner-up in the WSK Euro Series.
His progression through the single-seater ladder subsequently delivered several notable achievements. He secured third place in Italian F4 during his rookie season before returning to win the Formula Regional European Championship at his second attempt.
The step up to Formula 3 proved more challenging, with Beganovic finishing sixth in the standings in both of his campaigns. He nevertheless continued his climb, graduating to Formula 2 with DAMS and establishing himself as a competitive presence in the category.

Now in his second F2 season, the Swedish-Bosnian driver sits fifth in the 2026 championship. Back-to-back victories at Madring and Baku have underlined his ability to fight at the front, although they have not been enough to put him in contention for an immediate promotion to a Grand Prix seat.
Ferrari's decision offers Beganovic a route to remain involved in its F1 programme, even as his prospects of securing a race drive with the Italian outfit appear to have receded.
For Beganovic, the reserve appointment represents a different destination from the one he would have hoped to reach after seven years in Ferrari's development system.
Rather than joining the F1 grid as a full-time racer, he will now be expected to support the team from behind the scenes while continuing to build his experience with the Scuderia.
His familiarity with Ferrari's cars, gained through his previous FP1 appearances, should provide a useful foundation for those responsibilities.
Meanwhile, Ferrari will continue to have representation in the junior categories next season through Tuukka Taponen.
The Finn is set to move up from Formula 3 after finishing third in the 2026 standings, a result built on a remarkable late-season surge that produced three podium finishes across the final two rounds after he had failed to reach the top three earlier in the campaign.
