Magnussen’s race options ‘very limited’

Kevin Magnussen says his options to race full-time in 2015 “are very limited” as he weighs up what to do this season.

Following Fernando Alonso’s crash in pre-season testing, Magnussen will race for McLaren at the opening round of the new season in Melbourne. However, with the team confident Alonso will be fit for the second race at Malaysia, Magnussen has nothing else lined up beyond next weekend.

Wanting to race alongside his reserve role at McLaren, Magnussen - who previously said he wouldn’t rule out driving for Manor - says it’s tough to find a drive that would not hurt his F1 ambitions.

“I got the call quite late as well that I wasn't racing in F1 and therefore a lot of things were closed already,” Magnussen said. “The options are very limited, but I’m also not completely sure if racing something else is the right thing to do when you want to get back to Formula One.

“The best thing to do would be to drive race cars and do races and keep sharp like that but Formula One is tricky these days. There isn’t a test team anymore so it’s a tricky one.”
