Toto Wolff admits Mercedes has some concerns over its 2015 car following the final pre-season test in Barcelona.
While Mercedes was comfortably quickest - with Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton setting the fastest two times on soft tyres - both drivers complained of problems with the car’s balance during the opening two days of the final test. Rosberg was especially vocal about the problems, with Hamilton then having similar trouble when he drove the car the following day.
Speaking exclusively to F1i after the end of testing, Wolff admits there were some unexpected issues for Mercedes during pre-season, with the W06 not always reacting the way the team had predicted.
Asked if there were any surprises for Mercedes during winter testing, Wolff replied: “Yeah, we have seen the car is not always like we anticipated it to be, and we need to understand why.
“I think if you push the limits and you have a good, fast car, sometimes it can be a car which is maybe more difficult to drive and to balance on the edge maybe, but I’m not sure.”
Mercedes is looking to defend both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships in 2015.
