Daniil Kvyat has described Red Bull’s pre-season of testing as “on another level” compared to 2014.
Red Bull struggled throughout pre-season last year, with mileage limited by reliability issues due to the new V6 turbo power unit from Renault. This season saw more reliability problems cropping up for the team, but Kvyat - who was at Toro Rosso last season - says it’s easy to see the improvement from 12 months ago.
“We did our best in the testing,” Kvyat said. “I wouldn’t say it was the smoothest, but it was productive. Compared to last year we were definitely on another level. I’m sure that there will be very tight competition in Australia. We’ll do our best.”
Team-mate Daniel Ricciardo agrees that Red Bull should view its pre-season as a relative success ahead of the first race in Melbourne.
“Testing has been relatively good for us,” Ricciardo said. “We had a few reliability issues but we racked up a lot of miles and learned a lot. I still feel that we have a bit more to go. But there is no better place to do this than going racing. I’m ready to go.”
