Max Verstappen has now passed father Jos' podium tally with his third place finish in today's British GP, a result which could even improve should the stewards decide to impose a time penalty on 2nd placed man Nico Rosberg for breaching the radio message rules.
The Red Bull driver put in a scintillating performance all afternoon, entertaining the crowds as he battled the tricky track conditions and by achieving a spectacular and bold move on Nico Rosberg around the outside at Becketts on lap 16.
"We had good pace on the intermediate tyres but I was struggling with the visibility because of the spray," Verstappen explained.
"In the first sector I couldn't keep up because I couldn't see where I was going but once that cleared a bit I could push, and I got past Nico on the outside as the car had good grip."
Like most of his colleagues, Verstappen traded his intermediates for soft rubber around the half-way mark and immediately began to trade fastest laps with leader Lewis Hamilton while at the same time keeping Rosberg's Mercedes at bay.
"Nico was really pushing hard and giving me a hard time, and we had some good fights. He pulled off a great move on the outside of Stowe, and from there on I was just doing my own race, with no pressure from behind as there was a very big gap.
"When Nico had his problem I tried to get past and close the gap but once you get into the dirty air it's very difficult even closer on this track.
"We can be happy though, finishing just eight seconds behind and the car worked really well all weekend. I have to thank the team for giving me such a great car."
