Ligier’s finest hour in F1

Look back Ligier

As we mourn the passing of former F1 racer and team owner Guy Ligier, let’s look back at one of his most successful driver pairings: Jacques Laffite and the late Patrick Depailler, who won three grands prix for the French squad across the opening six races of the 1979 campaign.

While performance eventually tailed off and Depailler suffered a season-ending hand gliding accident , Ligier still managed to finish third in the Constructors’ championship that year, namely ahead of Lotus, Tyrrell and the Renault works team.
