The one and only 'Mr Monaco'

We're not quite ready to take our leave of Monaco quite yet, so here's a delightful colour picture of Graham Hill competing in the 1958 event.

Although he would later become synonymous with the event, Hill wasn't actually among the six men to finish the 100-lap race that year. He retired his Lotus-Climax on lap 69 with a halfshaft failure, after briefly leading.

Hill didn't actually win the event for the first time until 1963. He would go on win it five times in all and was dubbed "Mr Monaco". Only Aryton Senna - with six victories - has won more times in the principality.

In 1966 Hill was just one of four finishers at Monaco. Although he didn't win, he did go on to fly out to the US and compete in his first Indianapolis 500 - and he won, with fellow Briton Jim Clark finishing in second place.
