With Friday's FP2 being cancelled due to thunderstorms at COTA and local weather forecast announcing similar conditions on Saturday, qualifying for the United States Grand Prix could well take place on the morning before the race. The last time this happened was at the 2013 Australian Grand Prix as Q2 and Q3 were completed on Sunday morning. The same situation took place during the 2010 Japanese GP, with Sebastian Vettel beating Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber to pole position before prevailing in the afternoon as well.
