In this day and age of sprawling, state-of-the-art F1 facilities, it’s hard to imagine - even over fifty years ago - that a once championship winning team operated out of a mere woodshed.
But Team Tyrrell did just that in the last sixties and throughout much of the seventies.
It was in this ordinary woodshed adjacent to his lumberyard in Ockham, Surrey that the great Ken Tyrrell ran his successful racing outfit during its heydays in Formula 1 with three-time world champion Sir Jackie Stewart.
Grand Prix winners and innovative designs were conceived and built within the confines of the modest edifice.
In recent years, the woodshed's original location in Ockham became threatened by development, leading to concerns about its preservation.
To safeguard this piece of motorsport heritage, plans were initiated to relocate the original landmark to the Goodwood Motor Circuit in Sussex.
That relocation process, involving careful dismantling and reassembly, is now underway and set to be completed in early 2024.
Once at Goodwood, the woodshed will be integrated into the circuit's grounds, serving as a historical exhibit showcasing Tyrrell's remarkable legacy and as a start reminder that success can flourish even in the most humble of beginnings.
