In a high-stakes duel around the inaugural Java House Grand Prix at Arlington, Kirkwood hunted down the "unblinkable" three-time IndyCar champion Alex Palou to snatch his first win of the season and the championship lead!
Despite losing nearly two seconds during a slow right-rear tire change on his final stop, Kirkwood didn't panic – he got angry.
He erased a 2.2-second deficit in just six laps, eventually pulling off a daring, long-distance dive into Turn 13 that left Palou impressed and the capacity crowd roaring. Even a late-race yellow couldn't derail the Andretti Global star, who led an absolute clinic on the 2.73-mile street circuit.
It was a banner day for the Honda-powered teams, who locked out the podium in the heart of Cowboys country. Kirkwood stood tall on the top step, flanked by Alex Palou in a resilient second and veteran Will Power, who secured a brilliant third-place finish in his debut podium for his new squad.
