In front of a sea of Papaya orange clad fans, Alonso used the new McLaren nose to make it to Q3 for the first time this year, ahead of Sainz and just 0.05s behind Magnussen. Despite losing three positions on the opening lap, he battled back to make it five straight races in the top ten, but it was pretty amazing to watch the double world champion struggle lap after lap to get around Leclerc in the Sauber.
