Sauber team principal Monisha Kaltenborn says the team’s strong start to the season is helping attract interest from sponsors.
2014 was a disappointing season for Sauber as it failed to score a point for the first time in its history and finished behind Marussia in the constructors’ championship. The team has bounced back to score 19 points so far the year - with Felipe Nasr finishing fifth in Australia - as it currently sits fifth overall.
Kaltenborn says the recovery has displayed Sauber’s potential and should help it to secure more sponsorship deals in the future.
“It’s very important because it tells people we are back to where we usually are and last year was really an exception,” Kaltenborn told F1i. “Of course it hurts to be that far back on the grid but anyway we have to go through that now. Of course it’s not as easy as you straight away have 100 people lined up, but yes you can attract a lot more attention and you are more attractive and that helps.”
When asked if Sauber had already received more interest as a result of its strong start to the season, Kaltenborn replied: “We’ve had a few more people picking up the phone, yes.”
