Mercedes has 'no doubt' Hamilton will recover

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff says he is certain Lewis Hamilton's failure to win the Monaco Grand Prix will not impact on his form.

Having been beaten by team-mate Nico Rosberg in the Spanish Grand Prix, Hamilton responded with pole position in Monaco and looked set for a dominant victory. However, a strategic error from Mercedes saw Hamilton called in to the pits during a late safety car period, dropping him from first to third.

Wolff has explained how the error happened but says he doesn't expect Hamilton to dwell on the disappointment for too long.

"He has such a mental strength and he is on a roll," Wolff said. "It must be very sore to lose this one because it was his to win, but I have no doubt that he will recover as quickly as he always did."

And Wolff says there is little Mercedes can do now other than apologise to Hamilton and try to move on from the mistake.

"I am went to see him in the [media] scrum and we win and we lose together. That one was on the team and I apologised and that’s probably the only thing you can do. He is a great leader and a great driver and I am sure that he will understand that sometimes we make errors and this was such a situation."
