Two-time Daytona 500 winner Dale Earnhardt Jr. will join the Esports fray on Saturday, the NASCAR star set to race in the third round of the IndyCar iRacing Challenge at Michigan.

The event will be the first oval sim race tackled by IndyCar's pro drivers, five of which took part in the series' last visit to Michigan's speedway in 2007, when Tony Kannan beat Marco Andretti to the flag by just 0.06s!

Andretti will be the second prominent name in addition to Earnhardt to join the virtual IndyCar action this weekend, while fellow Andretti-Autosport driver Ryan Hunter-Reay will make it a distinguished trio of sim rookies.

Furthermore, Carlin Racing's Max Chilton, a man who shies away from ovals in real life, has also decided to mount a virtual challenge at Michigan's speedway.

The Chevrolet 275 event will be run over 85 thrilling laps when the green flag drops at 7:30pm UK time (2:30pm EST - 7:30pm CET).

As a reminder, Dreyer & Reinbold's Sage Karam took top honours at Watkins Glen two ago while Penske's Scott McLaughlin won last weekend at Barber Motorsports Park.
