AlphaTauri's Pierre Gasly has tested positive for COVID-19, the Frenchman revealing on social media that he is now self-isolating.
"I wanted to let you know that I tested positive for COVID-19," said Gasly who contracted the coronavirus during a training camp in Dubai. "I have told everyone I’ve been in contact with during these last days.
"I’m currently self-isolating and following the protocol set by the local health authorities. I’m feeling OK, and will continue to follow my training plan from home while I remain in isolation.
"Take care".
Gasly's positive case follows those earlier this month of Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc, while the Frenchman is the sixth F1 driver overall to contract the coronavirus, with Sergio Perez, Lance Stroll and Lewis Hamilton testing positive last year.
With pre-season testing starting in six weeks on March 14, drivers have entered the thick of their preparations, meaning that any COVID case contracted in the coming weeks could disrupt a driver's physical preparations but also impact engineering briefings and simulator work with one's team.
No doubt everyone will put on an extra layer of protection between now and the start of the 2021 season.
