Alonso keen on 'sharing a team' with Verstappen

Fernando Alonso would be keen on teaming up with Max Verstappen in the future, although he admitted that racing alongside the Dutchman in F1 is an unlikely prospect.

Alonso will turn 40 later this month but has vowed to remain on the grid in F1 with Alpine for another two seasons.

Beyond 2023, the Spaniard is likely to prolong his motorsport career, and perhaps take a shot at a third win at Le Mans. And why not with Verstappen at his side?

"We still have an opportunity in the future," Alonso said when queried on the possibility of teaming up with Verstappen. "Maybe not in F1 because I don’t think that’s a possibility.

"But in the future, who knows? Both of us love racing, endurance racing, Le Mans and many things. So it would be nice to one day share a team."

But would the current leader of the F1 world championship be tempted by an endeavor with Alonso?

"Of course, it would have been incredibly exciting to be at one team together with him," said Max.

"But like he said, there are also a lot of opportunities outside of Formula 1 later on. So who knows? It would be quite cool I think."
