FIA medical delegate Dr. Ian Roberts and F1 medical car driver Alan van der Merwe will not officiate as first responders this weekend in Turkey, having both tested positive for Covid-19.
The medical car crew will be replaced onboard F1's medical by Formula E’s Safety Car driver Bruno Correia and Medical Delegate Dr Bruno Franceschini.
While the medical car and its qualified crew have fortunately enjoyed little exposure in the past few season, their pair's crucial role was highlighted last year in Bahrain during Romain Grosjean's horrendous crash on the opening lap of the Sakhir Grand Prix.
Van der Merwe was quickly on the scene of the Haas drivers' crash while Dr. Ian Roberts swift intervention assisted Grosjean's relatively unscathed exit from his wreck's inferno.
Barring any unforeseen complications, Roberts and van der Merwe who are isolating at home are expected to be back on-board F1's medical at the US Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas in two weeks.
