Lawrence Stroll is setting a high bar for Aston Martin in Montreal, the Canadian expressing his confidence that his team can put both its drivers on the podium come Sunday.

Aston Martin has achieved a remarkable step forward this season, with Fernando Alonso scoring five podiums so far this season and establishing Team Silverstone as Red Bull's most worthy opponent, although Mercedes slotted into the runner-up spot in F1's Constructors' standings after the Spanish Grand Prix where it outpaced its Aston opponent.

However, Alonso has predicted that Aston will recoup its form in Canada where teammate Lance Stroll will also be bidding for a podium finish in front of his home crowd.

"Those are exactly the plans. Hopefully get two cars on the podium," Stroll Sr. said while speaking at an Aston Martin event in New York.

"I’m extremely confident. I believe the car will be very strong around the Montreal circuit, it suits our car well.

"So I’m really looking forward to going home and really looking forward to a great race."

Despite both Stroll and Alonso finishing among the top ten in Barcelona, Aston's contender was outperformed by both Mercedes cars and by Carlos Sainz's Ferrari.

But Stroll Sr. stated that the team "are bringing solutions and some upgrades to Canada".

The 63-year-old billionaire was also happy with his son gradually ramping up his performance relative to Alonso.

"I think he demonstrated in Barcelona he’s now starting. It took six or seven races, to feel better… I believe they [the two drivers] will be equal by the end of the season".
