Runaway championship leader Nico Rosberg says it is not worth talking about his 2016 Formula One title chances yet since “there are 425 points still up for grabs” on the eve of this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix.

The Mercedes man starts the European leg of the season with a perfect score, having won the opening four races.

Stretching back to the end of last year, Rosberg is currently on a seven-victory streak, only the fourth driver to have achieved such feat after multiple world champions Alberto Ascari, Michael Schumacher, and Sebastian Vettel.

“It's not something I could have expected - winning the first four races of the year,” said Rosberg, who has a 43-point edge over team-mate Lewis Hamilton in the Drivers' standings.

“It's been a great start but I'm just enjoying the moment and the form I'm in, doing my best to keep it going and hoping I can carry it through to the end of the season.

“Sport is all about ups and downs and being mentally prepared to bounce back stronger when they come. With a season this long you have to just take things race by race. There are 425 points still up for grabs - and anything can happen yet.”

Rosberg admits he feels very comfortable in the W07 at the moment, and will look to continue his positive momentum at a venue that proved to be a happy hunting ground for him last year.

“Next up, it's Barcelona. I got my first pole and win at this circuit last year and I'm connecting really well with the car at the moment, which is great as it gives you this awesome confidence to push the limits. So, I'm excited for the weekend and no doubt a big battle ahead.”
