Kevin Magnussen will miss qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix after a heavy crash in final practice on Saturday morning.

The Renault driver lost control as he got on the power on the exit of Turn 7, resulting in him hitting the concrete wall hard on the outside of the corner with the left-hand side of his car. The incident brought out the red flag and saw the session ended prematurely while the car and debris were cleared away.

Renault has now confirmed Magnussen's car will not be ready in time to take part in qualifying, with the Dane having to sit out the session while the team rebuilds the car using the spare chassis due to the impact.

Once Magnussen's car is rebuilt it will need to be scrutineered and then the stewards will have to give Renault approval for him to start the race despite not taking part in qualifying.

Magnussen had been 19th quickest in the final practice session in Montreal, ahead of only Felipe Nasr, Pascal Wehrlein and Rio Haryanto.
