Follow F1i's live coverage of all the action from the second free practice session for the 2016 British Grand Prix.
The morning saw cool, gloomy but dry conditions, but conditions brightened up over lunch and so did the track temperatures. However the British weather can never be relied upon and there's still a chance for showers this afternoon and over the rest of the weekend.
Drivers took advantage of the completely dry weather in FP1 to get down to business in a workmanlike session with few incidents or dramas. Mercedes were once again in dominant form with Lewis Hamilton outpacing Nico Rosberg by just 0.033s, the pair still racing under something of a cloud after their final lap collision last week in Austria which has not impressed team boss Toto Wolff one bit.
The pair were eight tenths faster than the rest of the field even though they used medium tyres for the whole session, compared with Force India's Nico Hulkenberg and Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel who tried to boost their pace with a switch to soft compound tyres.
While turn 3 caused a few headaches here and there, there were few incidents as everyone just kept their heads down and carried out their pre-planned programme of work. Marcus Ericsson sat out much of the session and completed only 19 laps but Sauber said there were no problems with his car, in contrast to Max Verstappen whose session ended ten minutes early with an engine issue. Vettel also had a late issue with a very sick-sounding gearbox in the final minutes of FP1.
Otherwise though it was a pretty average morning at the office for everyone - but how long will the calm last before the storm? Things start to get a little more serious and fraught this afternoon, with FP2 due to get underway at 2pm local time, and of course we will be bringing you all the news and information from trackside as it happens on F1i's live page.
