Sauber team principal Monisha Kaltenborn believes progress regarding fresh investment for the team is helping its performances.

Following years of financial difficulty, Sauber is closing in on further funding which the team hopes to confirm by the end of the European season. While Kaltenborn has been keen to keep the details of the deal private, she admits the positive news has helped the team get the most out of its package in recent races.

“The team gets the same information," Kaltenborn told F1i. "For the team it’s important you stay focused and do your work and leave the rest to others. I think it’s not easy for them and I think you do see a positive trend in the last few races. Of course they are not gigantic steps but you can’t expect that because fundamentally you need more funding for it.

“We have our things ready. We tested now a rear wing [at Silverstone] where we had to collect some data and now we will assess that and see if there are any twists and turns to be on it. We hope to have it on the car in Budapest, so it’s looking good.”

Kaltenborn - who says the investment is "long-term thinking" - also confirmed the team's upgrade package is ready to be introduced as soon as the funding is finalised.

Sauber has yet to score a point so far this season and is currently bottom of the constructors' standings as a result of Manor's tenth place in the Austrian Grand Prix.
