Sainz's engineers - and Toro Rosso boss Franz Tost - thought he was mad to launch his race on dry tyres. And a slow and sloppy first lap which saw everyone blow past the Spanish driver appeared to confirm that impression. Except that then everyone dove into the pits and Carlos’ tyres were up to temperature, he actually got his race going. Sixth after lap three, he maintained the rhythm of the leaders. While it was logical he couldn’t contain Bottas, he put in yet another very impressive drive.
