RENAULT MAKES THINGS COMPLEX
After introducing developments in Azerbaijan two weeks ago (a low downforce wing and new sidepod vane), Renault has now modified its front wing.
Two vanes were added between the front wing and the endplate, to amplify the “outwash” effect (which consists of directing part of the airflow to the sides of the wing, in order to generate a vortex that will chase the turbulence related to the rotation of the wheels).
Note that the sidepod vane tested in Baku has not been used yet in the race: “Very often we will run the new bits on a Friday FP1-FP2 for maybe a couple of race events before we will sign them off for actual use in qualifying and race,” said Bob Bell.
