RED BULL CUTS UP ITS BARGEBOARDS
Together with Ferrari and McLaren, Red Bull is the team that brought the biggest visible evolution in Barcelona.
The bargeboards of the RB14 were further serrated. The first panel now has a vertical slot (compare the orange arrows), while the top of the second panel has been notched (yellow).
In the lower part, the base now has six elements instead of four (compare the red arrows), while the rounded carbon flap has been split in two (blue arrows).
One can see here further evidence of Mercedes’ segmentation philosophy whereby teams seek to control airflows tightly by multiplying the number of cuts and elements
To observe the airflow on the new part, the engineers of Red Bull covered it with fluorescent paint called “flow viz paint” (for “flow vizualisation paint”).
