Nico Rosberg says he plans on staying at Mercedes “for many more years”, as his current contract expires at the end of the current campaign.
Autosport reports that the Formula One points leader has hired former grand prix winner Gerhard Berger to assist in the negotiations with the German manufacturer, having been part of its works outfit since 2010.
Although Rosberg lost out to team-mate Lewis Hamilton in the last two Drivers’ championships, he has had the upper hand so far this year, with five wins in eight races and a 24-point cushion over the Briton in the standings.
Despite the 2016 mid-season fast approaching, Rosberg appears to be in no hurry to settle his contract situation for next year.
“It's not something I think about at the moment,” he is quoted as saying by Autosport. “It's not a priority at the moment because there is no pressure anyway.
"I'm feeling great, we are all happy to be together. I'm going to be here for many more years and that's it. There is no need to rush.”
Mercedes motorsport Toto Wolff has already said that keeping Rosberg alongside Hamilton, who signed a three-year extension through 2018 last season, was the most likely option.
