Manor's Ryan praises Wehrlein

Manor's racing director Dave Ryan was quick to commend Pascal Wehrlein Sunday evening in Singapore following the German's race at the Marina Bay venue.

Points were obviously out of reach for Wehrlein but Ryan underlined his driver's performance relatiove to his direct rivals at the tail end of the field.

"Pascal drove another superb race today," Ryan said.

"He did exactly what was asked of him and I can't stress strongly enough how impressive his performance was to finish ahead of Ericsson, in what has clearly been the quicker car all weekend."

Wehrlein himself was happy to enjoy the upper hand over the Sauber driver, but admitted it had been his toughest race to date.

"We said all weekend this was not our track, but anyway we were P16 and with a Sauber behind me, so it was not so bad," said Wehrlein.

"I’ve loved the whole night race experience and I’m pretty happy. This was definitely the toughest race of the season. I was pushing hard from start to finish, but particularly from the midpoint of the race to make sure we kept Ericsson behind."

Ryan admitted that prospects were always going to look difficult around the flood-lit street circuit with Manor's drivers struggling for performance. Strategy calls and tyres were therefore paramount.

"It was pretty obvious to everyone that we struggled with pace all weekend and if we were going to get anything out of this race, it was going to come down to a brave strategy combined with great tyre management. That's exactly how it turned out.
