Sergio Perez believes he was “pretty unlucky” to suffer such a major accident during FP1 for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Perez suffered a failure on the right rear corner of his car exiting Turn 11 and hit the barrier, with one of the front tyres then folding under the car and causing him to roll. With the Force India coming to rest upside down, Perez was fortunately able to climb out of the car unaided and was deemed unhurt after a brief visit to the medical centre.
With the Force India driver unaware a right rear failure on his car had contributed to the incident, Perez says he is fine but was unfortunate to roll.
"It was a really bad accident, pretty unlucky,” Perez told Sky Sports. “The track was dirty and I went on the AstroTurf and I collided on the other side of the track at a very bad angle, so it made the car roll over.
"But everything's alright. It was a strange accident. I thought it was under control but the AstroTurf was very dirty which is why I went in the wall. We'll have to check everything in detail."
