Sergio Perez fears Force India will not be able to improve its car sufficiently to run comfortably inside the top ten during the rest of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend.
Both Force Indias were inside the top ten in FP1 but Perez struggled slightly more than team-mate Nico Hulkenberg in the second session, which saw 10 drivers covered by just 0.4s. Perez admits he is concerned there is little room for improvement for Force India, having been happy with the balance of his car throughout Friday’s running.
“I think there is good potential, [although] it is a lot tighter than what I thought,” Perez said. “I thought we would be more comfortable inside the top ten, but we’re not so we really need a perfect qualifying if we are going to make it into Q3.
“There are not a lot of balance issues and I am more or less comfortable with the car, but we need to find a couple of tenths. We have to do a lot of work tonight to be able to get those tenths that we’ll need to get into Q3.”
Asked if he feels Force India can beat Williams in Montreal, Perez replied: “We’ll see….
“The balance of the car is more or less alright and, normally on a Friday, you feel there is a lot to improve on the car. I think there are a couple of tweaks that we can do to improve it, but not a lot, so hopefully we can find them and I can improve my driving – anything to put a perfect lap together.”
