Daniil Kvyat admits he needs to “start showing some performance soon” but the Toro Rosso driver was pleased to enjoy a clean weekend at the Canadian Grand Prix.
Coming off a chaotic race in Monaco, Kvyat had a few moments in free practice but managed to recover with a smooth showing during qualifying and the race, though his 12th place was eclipsed by Carlos Sainz recovering from 20th on the grid to ninth under the flag.
Since being demoted from Red Bull to Toro Rosso, Kvyat has been comprehensively outshone by his team-mate but the former GP3 Series champion hopes his decent Montreal effort can help him turn the tide.
“It was important me to have a clean qualifying on Saturday, which we did, finish the race, which we did, in order to get the data for myself and my engineers, it’s very important,” Kvyat said.
“We need to learn as much as we can from it because we need to start showing some performance quite soon. I hope we have enough information in our hands to do it.
“Luckily the next race is very soon.”
Indeed, the European Grand Prix, which takes place in Azerbaijan’s capital city Baku, gets under way on Friday 17 June with the first two practice sessions.
