After three dry practice sessions, a thunderstorm has hit the Hungaroring, with heavy rain failing throughout the hour before the start of qualifying. Race control vehicles are conducting reconnaissance laps to analyse if qualifying can start on time at 1400 local time.
The practice sessions saw Mercedes top all three, but FP3 ended with Max Verstappen just 0.002s adrift of Nico Rosberg's pace-setting time. Wet conditions should play into the hands of Red Bull, with Verstappen particularly strong on intermediate tyres at Silverstone.
Ferrari was unable to match Red Bull and Mercedes in final practice but was within 0.6s of the pace after improving across all three sessions. McLaren will be targeting a spot in the top ten after Fernando Alonso was seventh quickest in FP1, FP2 and FP3.
