Pérez qualified a season best P6, but was pushed wide at the start by Alonso and lost another position to Massa. With fresh soft rubber late in the race, Checo closed right in on the McLaren and Williams but ran out of laps. He probably did enough however to win the season-long battle among the Pink Panthers.
