Valtteri did his chances of staying at Mercedes in 2019 some good in Montreal. He was a clear cut above Hamilton in qualifying as he slot himself on the front row. He initially lost ground to Vettel, then caught up towards the end of the race only to make a small mistake and drop back again. With the old version of the V6 he had to keep a light right boot to save fuel late in the going to take his fourth runner-up result of the season.
