The end of the 2022 Formula 1 championship might not have been the thriller that last year's Abu Dhabi GP was, but it was certainly engrossing - and surprisingly emotional, as we bid a final farewell to Sebastian Vettel and also to Daniel Ricciardo, Mick Schumacher and Nicholas Latifi (for now at least). So, who went out on a high - and which of Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc won top marks in Yas Marina?

Fernando Alonso (Water leak, Lap 28): 7/10
As Fernando Alonso himself said after the race, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix rather summed up his season at Alpine: solid speed, strong driving, only to be once again let down by reliability. Having started from P10 despite missing the cut at the end of the second round of qualifying, he was on course for a top ten finish when the Alpine developed a water leak. Why does it always seem to happen to Alonso? He won't have to worry about that next year, and you can't argue that he had every right to be looking forward to donning green at Aston Martin in 2023.

Nicholas Latifi (P19, Electrical issue, Lap 56): 5.5/10
Nicholas Latifi missed out on first practice in order to help Logan Sargeant gain an extra superlicence point (the American finally got over the line in the final F2 race of the season, meaning he's been confirmed as Latifi's full-time replacement in 2023.) Latifi was was then slowest of anyone in the remaining sessions, a regretfully familiar picture; and in the race he was the victim of an over-zealous lunge by Mick Schumacher. In the end the Williams developed an electrical issue and was forced to retire three laps early. It's likely to be the likeable Canadian's final bow in F1, and we wish him the best in whatever he goes on to do.
