Mick Schumacher (P16): 5/10
It's been something of an open secret that Mick Schumacher would be out of Haas at the end of the season, and the news was confirmed this weekend in Abu Dhabi. Schumacher would have liked to go out with a bang to show what the team will be missing in 2023, but unfortunately that didn't happen. He was stood down in P1 in favour of Pietro Fittipaldi, and while he was faster than team mate Kevin Magnussen in FP2 both were still stuck in the bottom five. Schumacher did have a brief moment in the spotlight when he made the first cut in qualifying to put him in 12th place on the grid, but a two-stop strategy did him no favours and in the end he crossed the line with only his team mate behind him for company. Is this the end of the Schumacher name in F1? We suspect not. Watch out for more Mick in due course.
Valtteri Bottas (P15): 5.5/10
After a brief resurgence for Valtteri Bottas and Alfa Romeo in Mexico and Brazil, they ended the season with yet another pointless endeavour in Abu Dhabi. Nothing seemed to click this weekend. His practice form made it look like he should make it into the second round of qualifying but in fact he missed the cut and lined up in P18. Starting on hard tyres, he promptly fell to the back at the start. While a 30-lap first stint saw him peak in tenth place he paid a high price for the one-stop strategy, and by the time he came back out he was down in penultimate position. His new tyres saw him pass Nicholas Latifi and Mick Schumacher but that was the extent of his competitiveness at Yas Marina. On the plus side, his fourth place earlier in the season at Imola was the key reason Alfa beat Aston Martin to P6 in the constructors standings.
