Nico Hulkenberg is confident Force India can now target points at every Formula One race, with the team coming off three double top-ten finishes including a pair of podiums.
After a best-ever result of P5 in the 2015 Constructors’ championship, Force India initially struggled this year, bagging eight points across the first four flyaways. Having introduced a new package in Barcelona, the Silverstone-based outfit has added 51 points to its tally since then.
“We want to keep on doing well, consolidate the fifth place that we scored last year, keep that up,” Hulkenberg told Force India’s post-European Grand Prix podcast.
"We're fifth now, but it’s still 14 races to go, so still a long way. I think now we have a car that allows us to be in the top 10 pretty much race-by-race and just go for points and points and points.”
While Hulkenberg remains an ever-reliable pair of hands, the German has also seen his team-mate Sergio Perez steal the headlines with impressive top-three finishes in Monaco and Baku.
The Mexican now has seven career podiums, while the former GP2 Series champion and Le Mans 24 Hours winner is still looking to pay the rostrum a maiden visit and joking that he is “running out of patience”.
“In Formula One, I’ve learnt there are a lot of things that are not in my power or control,” Hulkenberg added.
“I can control obviously and have an effect on what I do with my performance on track, but beyond that there are many factors I can't influence.
“I’m concentrating on what I can but I've been around a few years and I'm running out of patience, so hopefully [I can win soon]!”
