After Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen claimed third and fourth at the Italian Grand Prix, Maurizio Arrivabene says Ferrari has been “moving forward” since it recently reshuffled its technical organisation.
The Maranello-based outfit went through a challenging summer, as it dropped behind Red Bull in the Constructors’ championship and saw former technical director James Allison leave the team on the eve of the German Grand Prix.
However, Ferrari has shown improved pace in the last two rounds, though company CEO Sergio Marchionne made it clear in Italy that the team has “failed” to reach its pre-season goals in 2016.
“Of course, we did not match our targets this year,” Arrivabene said in response to the comments. “But I think one month ago we took some action and now since the last few races it’s a bit better.
“The atmosphere within the team is very positive, everybody is moving forward race after race this year and also next year. So the atmosphere in the team is very good, everyone is looking in the same direction.”
It has been reported that Ferrari is currently trying to implement a more horizontal, McLaren-style structure that would help identify and promote in-house talents. Arrivabene adds that Marchionne is supportive of the initiative.
“He said the structure is solid, we have enough people in Ferrari to be able to work in a good direction. I think he’s not happy about the results this season, but he also wants to see something recently that we’ve moved forward.”
