Going under the skin of the Mercedes
Mercedes had increased the size of its ERS cooler in Canada, which had led the engineers to widen the engine cover on two spots. A couple of bulges had thus appeared either side of the bodywork. However, no picture of the more voluminous ERS cooler itself – which is mounted above the gearbox – had been released until last weekend (compare blue arrows above).
Better ERS cooling enables the Mercedes engineers to improve their car’s overall reliability in a critical field – but also boosts its performance for bigger electrical transfers no longer lead to overheating issues.
