F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2024 Mexico City GP

Lando Norris, Mclaren (P2, 18 pts): 9/10
Last week's disappointment in Austin seemed to have had a sobering effect on Lando Norris in terms of his title hopes. He sat out first practice in favour of Patricio O'Ward but was back up to speed on Saturday. He didn't seem too disappointed with P3 in qualifying but was angered by his battle with Max Verstappen in the opening laps of the race. Once Verstappen was handed two ten second penalties for his blocking moves, Norris was able to knuckle down and focus on the Ferraris. Gifted second by an error by Charles Leclerc, he didn't have quite time to press Carlos Sainz for victory before the chequered flag.

Carlos Sainz, Ferrari (Pole, P1, 25 pts): 9.5/10
Many drivers who are leaving their current team tend to fade away in their final races, but if anything Sainz seems invigorated by the knowledge that these are his final outings with Ferrari and is determined to make the most of them. He looked strong all weekend, second in FP1 and third in FP3 setting him up for a surge to pole in qualifying. And once he was over a slight glitch at the start he was untouchable in the race itself, recapturing the lead from Max Verstappen on lap nine. He easily held on to it from team mate Charles Leclerc (and latterly Lando Norris) to the finish. An accomplished weekend's performance from the Spaniard, thoroughly deserving of our highest rating of the race.
