Pierre Gasly, Alpine (P10, 1 pt): 7.5/10
A muted start to the weekend (just 15th in first practice, and slowest of all on Saturday morning) concealed what proved to be some good race pace for Gasly in Mexico. Given the build-up it was a surprise to see him confidently inject himself into the final round of qualifying. On Sunday he got caught up in the Albon/Tsunoda accident and struggled to keep up his pace in the midsection of the race, losing out to the recovering Oscar Piastri on lap 44. After that he spent the final laps trailing first Piastri and then Nico Hulkenberg to the line, but a point was still a decent reward for his efforts and more than he was likely expecting this week.
Nico Hulkenberg, Haas (P9, 2 pts): 8/10
Haas looked in good shape throughout the weekend, starting with Nico Hulkenberg finishing FP1 in the top six. He fell back in final practice but still made the last round of qualifying to secure himself a top ten start to the race. The opening lap tangle between Pierre Gasly, Alex Albon and Yuki Tsunoda helped Hulkenberg move up to eight on the opening lap, and while he subsequently lost out to Oscar Piastri in the closing laps he still ended up contributing to a strong Haas double points endeavour.
