Valtteri Bottas, Sauber (P14): 6/10
There was an unexpected ray of sunshine for Valtteri Bottas on Friday when he was eighth in FP1 and again in the disrupted FP2. Even when things got down to business on Saturday he was still in 12th place in final practice, and that translated into a rare Q2 appearance in qualifying as big names like Sergio Perez and Oscar Piastri fell short. He did a decent job holding onto the position in Sunday's race, but there was little more he could do and points remained as out of touch as they have been all season.
Esteban Ocon, Alpine (P13): 5.5/10
Esteban Ocon made a sprightly start to the weekend with seventh place in first practice. He was still faster than team mate Pierre Ocon in the remaining two sessions, although by FP3 both Alpines were looking rather sorry for themselves stuck in the bottom three. While Gasly suddenly found form in qualifying, there was no such good fortune for Ocon. The team took the opportunity to fit some additional power unit elements overnight at the cost of a pit lane start, and it gave Ocon something to work with on Sunday. However there wasn't really much opportunity for him to do more than paddle in the shallow end during the race, and watch from afar as Gasly rallied into the top ten.
