Fernando Alonso, Aston Martin (Retirement, Lap 15): 6/10
The shine has really gone off Aston Martin in recent races. Both Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll missed the second cut in qualifying on Saturday leaving the Spaniard making his 400th grand Prix appearance down in a disappointing 13th place on the grid. That was just ahead of Stroll who got the jump on Alonso when the lights went out on Sunday. He spent the opening laps running behind Stroll but then the AMR24 started glitching. His day was done: "Everything was under control from our side," he said later. "However by lap 13 the brake temperatures were a little high and unfortunately a few laps later we had to retire the car." Not the anniversary celebrations he had been hoping for.
Sergio Perez, Red Bull (P17): 4/10
It's not been a great season for Sergio Perez. He's had slumps in the past and has always bounced back, but this one seems to be going on longer and getting worse rather than better. He was in the top ten in FP1 but fell to 14th in final practice before suffering the ignominy of an emphatic Q1 elimination on Saturday afternoon. He leapt up to P13 at the start but was penalised for being too far forward on the grid, which sent him to the back on lap 21. He subsequently got involved in a spat with RB's Liam Lawson, abd conspicuously failed to make any progress through the field. He gave up a potential 15th place to pit for fresh tyres in a bid to take the bonus point for fastest lap away from the front runners, but ultimately couldn't even manage that. A dismal homecoming all round for the Mexican.
